Electro Magnet Crane
The project is designed to teach the students about how the robotic machine can be implemented to perform repetitive tasks.
The Crane uses 3D printed parts and assemblies. The color shown may not be the same as supplied in the kit.The pieces are Hot glue gun together to form the crane.
Three servos are used for the crane. One is used to rotate the crane, two used to raise and lower the arms.
The end arm utilizes an Electro-Magnet to pick up ferrous metals(magnetic metals). An LED is located at the end of the arm to indicate when the Electro-Magnet is energized.
This kit will teach students about electronics and magnetism. They will learn basic electronics since a Transistor is utilized to switch current to the Electro-Magnet
This kit will require soldering to interconnect some of the wires.
A breadboard and jumper wires are included in the kit. This kit utilizes an interface that will allow an Arduino or Raspberry Pi microcontroller for this project. The kit will include an Arduino.
The student will have to know there is a weight limit of the crane since the servo motor has a limited amount of torque. The kit will let the students discover the meaning of torque.
Engineering drawings and electrical schematic diagram are included in the kit.
Programming
The student can program the Crane using Mblock, Python and C++ Programming. An example code for the Arduino will be included in the kit. The student can program the Crane to pick up an object and release the object at a different location. The student's imagination is endless on the different uses of the crane.
